TORONTO -- Mike Pelfrey gave the Tigers the start they were looking for.Deroits offense, however, couldnt come through against the surging Blue Jays.Happ and two relievers combined on a seven-hit shutout, Edwin Encarnacion hit a three-run home run and Toronto extended its season-high winning streak to seven games with a 6-0 victory over Detroit on Friday night.Pelfrey (2-8) allowed one run and six hits in six innings. He has won just once in seven starts.Pelfreys outing was a positive, for sure, manager Brad Ausmus said. His pitch count got up early but he was able to get through six strong with one run. Well take that from our starters every day.Pelfrey, who is 0-6 in nine road starts, said he was a little too amped up for this one.My command wasnt really that great, Pelfrey said. I was pretty excited to pitch and I know how good of a lineup that is so I knew I had to bring it. I probably had too much adrenaline.Six of Detroits seven hits were singles. We just couldnt get the hit to get the merry-go-round going, Ausmus said.In his final start before the All-Star break, Happ (12-3) matched his career-high in wins by giving up six hits, striking out nine and walking none in 5 2/3 innings. The left-hander, who went 12-4 for Philadelphia in 2009, has won six consecutive starts.Happ did an excellent job against us, Ausmus said. We have a lot of trouble with him.Happ allowed six runs in five innings in an 11-0 defeat at Comerica Park on June 6. He hasnt lost since. He did make a few adjustments, Detroits James McCann said. He used his fastball up in the zone a little bit more than he did at our place.Jesse Chavez worked 1 1/3 innings and Bo Schultz finished as Toronto won for the seventh time in nine meetings with Detroit.Torontos only run against Pelfrey came in the fifth. Darwin Barney hit a leadoff double, advanced on Ezequiel Carreras single and scored when Josh Donaldson grounded into a double play. The Blue Jays added four more in the seventh against relievers Kyle Ryan and Bobby Parnell. Kevin Pillar hit an RBI double off Ryan, who left after walking Carrera. Parnell came on and got Donaldson to pop out before Encarnacion drilled his 23rd home run, a blast into the center field party deck.Eddie is having a heck of a year, manager John Gibbons said. He crushed that ball.Encarnacion leads the majors with 80 RBI.Detroit has lost four of five.DOUBLE YOUR PLEASUREPelfrey induced three double play grounders and has had 21 double plays turned behind him this season. He had 29 last year, tied for the ML-lead.MAN OF THE PEOPLEBlue Jays OF Michael Saunders became an All-Star after winning the AL Final Vote contest. Saunders collected 17.7 million votes.TRAINERS ROOMTigers: RHP Jordan Zimmermann, on the 15-day DL since July 4, has been diagnosed with a strained muscle in his neck and expects to resume throwing over the All-Star break.Blue Jays: INF Ryan Goins, who went on the DL with a strained forearm after pitching an inning of relief in Torontos 19-inning loss to Cleveland on July 1, is taking ground balls but has yet to resume throwing.UP NEXTTigers: Former Blue Jays farmhand Matt Boyd will start for Detroit Saturday. The left-hander was acquired in the July, 2015, deal that sent David Price to Toronto. Boyd is 0-2 with a 6.44 ERA in six games, five starts, for the Tigers this season. Parnell was optioned to Triple-A Toledo to make room for Boyd.Blue Jays: RHP Aaron Sanchez (9-1, 2.94) has allowed one run in eighth innings in each of his past two starts, posting victories over Colorado and Kansas City. Sanchez allowed two runs in eight innings in a 3-2 defeat at Detroit on June 7. He has not lost a decision since April 22 against Oakland. ... . Batiste, who briefly signed with the Eskimos in 2006, has spent time with several NFL teams including the Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Redskins. The Americans, skipped by John Shuster, seized the advantage in the eighth end by scoring five points for a 7-3 lead. The Czechs pulled two back in the ninth, but Shusters team of third Jeff Isaacson, second Jared Zezel and lead John Landsteiner ended with another point to secure the last Olympic berth on offer. [url=http://www.baseballnationalsmlb.com/authentic-chris-heisey-nationals-jersey... . After a replay, the winner will meet Sunderland in the quarterfinals. Sagbo did well to control Sone Alukos right cross and fire past Brighton goalkeeper Peter Brezovan. Aluko was making his first start in four months after recovering from an Achilles injury. SEATTLE -- Boston Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel was supposed to get a soft outing in his return from left knee surgery, according to manager John Farrell. It didnt work out that way.Mookie Betts homered to lead off the ninth inning, Kimbrel got his 18th save in his return from the disabled list and the Red Sox beat James Paxton and the Seattle Mariners 2-1 on Monday night.Kimbrel made his first appearance since having surgery to repair a medial meniscus tear in his left knee. He allowed a walk, and Kyle Seager reached on a third-strike wild pitch, but Kimbrel got two other strikeouts to end it.As much as we talked before the game about Kimbrel and giving him a little breathing room, that one-run margin wasnt a heck of a lot, Farrell said. He was very good. It looked like he hadnt missed any time.Thats my job, Kimbrel said. I like save situations. It worked out nice.Paxton held Boston to a run and four hits over eight innings before Betts hit his 22nd homer off closer Steve Cishek (2-6), who blew a three-run lead in the ninth inning Sunday against Chicago.Seattle may turn over closing duties to hard-throwing rookie right-hander Edwin Diaz.Well talk about it, Servais said. Well probably take the gas off a little bit and try to get (Cishek) in some better spots, and maybe not when the game is on the line all the time, and get it back going again.Aaron Hill homered off Paxton in the eighth to tie the game 1-1. It was the second straight ninth-inning comeback for Boston, which beat the Angels 5-3 with five two-out runs in their final at-bat Sunday. You have to play 27 outs to beat us, Betts said. Were starting to see that more and more now.Junichi Tazawa (2-1) got the win with a scoreless eighth after Eduardo Rodriguez held Seattle to a run and three hits over 6 1/3 innings.Rodriguez held the Mariners to three baserunners in the first six innings, and only one of his first 19 outs even left the infield.Paxton retired the first seven batters until Sandy Leons one-out single in the third. Hanley Ramirez singlled in the fifth and Betts was the first player to reach second with a two-out double in the sixth.dddddddddddd. All failed to advance.Dae-Ho Lees run-scoring double with one out in the seventh chased Rodriguez, who allowed three hits, two walks and six strikeouts. Robbie Ross Jr. took over and hit Seager with a pitch to load the bases with one out. He then struck out Franklin Gutierrez and Chris Iannetta.Paxton had six strikeouts and no walks.KID COMINGThe Red Sox will promote prospect Andrew Benintendi from Double-A to the majors before Tuesday nights game. The outfielder is one of the top prospects in baseball, hitting .312 with nine homers, 76 RBI and 16 stolen bases this season between Class A Salem and Portland.PITCH FOR PITCHThe Red Sox added Kimbrel off the injured list, just three weeks after his July 11 surgery. To make room, the club optioned RHP Joe Kelly to Triple-A Pawtucket. The Mariners also added a pitcher, RHP Donn Roach from Triple-A Tacoma. He is likely a temporary fix for the teams depleted staff.MIRANDA THURSDAY?The Mariners have not announced a pitcher for Thursdays game, and manager Scott Servais said theres a possibility that lefty Ariel Miranda could pitch. Miranda was acquired from Baltimore for lefty Wade Miley on Sunday.TRAINERS ROOMMariners: RHP Taijuan Walker (right foot tendinitis) had a rehab start for Triple-A Tacoma on Monday. ...
