The Pittsburgh Pirates announced the dismissal of third-base coach Rick Sofield and reassignment of first-base coach Nick Leyva to senior advisor to baseball operations on Saturday.Sofield spent four seasons as a member of the teams major league coaching staff, including serving as third-base coach the last two years. He also oversaw the clubs baserunning and outfield efforts.Leyva, the teams third-base coach prior to Sofield taking the job, served as first-base coach for two seasons. He was also the teams infield coach.We have great respect and appreciation for both men, Pirates general manager Neal Huntington said in a statement. We thank them for their time and effort as part of our major league team and the Pirates organization.
