MANCHESTER, England -- Manchester United manager David Moyes says Wayne Rooney injured his hamstring before the clubs preseason tour to Asia and Australia and dismissed suggestions the striker is set to leave the club. Rooney returned home after only one day in Thailand and is expected to be out of action for a month, placing him in doubt for Uniteds first match of the Premier League season against Swansea on Aug. 17. "The day we left (Manchester for the tour) he just felt his hamstring tighten up right at the end of training and we thought there would be no problem," Moyes said. "But after the long flight we decided wed get him tested and scanned and have a look at things, and there is just a small grade one injury there. "We wont take any chances -- there is no point in taking him any further round the world, so weve sent him back and hell get treatment." Rooney wrote on his Facebook page: "Gutted to have picked up a niggling injury especially as training was going so well, heading back to Manchester to have it assessed fully but early indications are nothing to worry about." The early return provoked further speculation about Rooneys future. Previous United manager Alex Ferguson revealed Rooney asked to leave the club at the end of last season, while Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said Friday that the 27-year-old England international is a player he admires. "People are entitled to talk about good players," Moyes said. "I am being asked plenty about Wayne, so I am sure Jose will be getting asked about lots of players as well. For players, a ttransfer is a hunt for more minutes or a better stylistic fit or an NCAA tournament appearance.dddddddddddd Sometimes, a year spent practicing but not playing is just what the doctor ordered. Battle,?on the other hand, looks like a must-have piece for coach Jim Boeheim, even by default. This spring, Syracuse lost its best player, Michael Gbinije, a converted small forward-turned-point guard, as well as four-year stalwart Trevor Cooney. Meanwhile, after freshman?Malachi Richardsons draft stock soared into offer-you-cant-refuse territory, he did the?sensible thing and took the NBA up on it. Richardsons departure was a minor shock; suddenly?Franklin Howard, a little-used reserve freshman, was Boeheims most?experienced backcourt returner.The Orange have a chance to be pretty good next season, particularly if?Tyler Lydon?truly blossoms into the 3-and-D monster he advertised as last March. But if Syracuse is good, it will almost?certainly be because Battle is both better than expected on the offensive end and yet another of the Boeheim zones dominant disrupters on the other end.
