NEW YORK -- Joe Girardi was frustrated. Six losses in seven games left the New York Yankees last in the AL East. "Im hoping this is rock-bottom," the manager said. No, thats not this week. That was on May 20, 2008, 45 games into Girardis first season as the Yankees manager -- and the only season since 1994 that New York failed to make the playoffs. As Yogi Berra says, it gets late early -- especially in the Bronx. For a team that likes to constantly refer to its history, 2012 is starting to resemble 2008, when the Yankees started 20-25 and never really contended. Now theyre 21-21, tied for last in the AL East with the Boston Red Sox. "I think were a much better team than what weve played, but its no fun being down there," Girardi said Tuesday. New Yorks offensive struggles with men on base reached new lows during Monday nights 6-0 loss to the Kansas City Royals. The Yankees went 0 for 13 with runners in scoring position, their most hitless at-bats with RISP since July 1990. Bases loaded, no outs and they still couldnt score. Robinson Cano looked at strike three, Alex Rodriguez swung at strike three and Raul Ibanez flied out deep. Even when they hit the ball hard, its right at someone, prompting captain Derek Jeter to say: "At times, it looks like theres 20 people out there playing defence." "Everything bad that could be happening right now is happening," Nick Swisher said. "Weve just got to start winning." Several teams are doing that lately at the Yankees expense. In the last seven days, four different clubs have beaten them, with Kansas City joining Cincinnati, Toronto and Baltimore. Its the second time this year that four teams have defeated the Yankees in a single week, STATS LLC. A 5 1/2-game deficit in the AL East could be wiped out rather quickly, but the Yankees seem to be adrift. "I havent sensed a panic from our players. I think our players have remained positive," Girardi said. "Panics not going to help anyone. Its just going to tighten players up and its not really going to help. The concern that you could get sometimes is players trying to do too much, and I think thats what you really have to guard against with this group." A handful of key pieces are missing. Left fielder Brett Gardner has been sidelined by an elbow injury since April 17, sapping the batting order of spark and speed. Star closer Mariano Rivera is likely out for the season after tearing a ligament in his right knee while shagging fly balls at Kansas City on May 3. His replacement, David Robertson, is on the disabled list with a strained muscle in his left ribcage. Before Rivera got hurt, the Yankees were batting .270 with runners in scoring position. Since then, theyre hitting .159, including 6 for 72 (.083) in their last nine games. New York is 0-10 when failing to hit a home run. "Its very frustrating," Rodriguez said. "Weve talked about it over and over again. You cant really describe it. Its not a lot of fun obviously going out and not getting the job done. But at this point, nobodys going to feel sorry for us." CC Sabathia (5-2, 3.78 ERA) and Ivan Nova (4-2, 5.69) have winning records, but Hideki Kuroda (3-6, 4.56) and Phil Hughes (3-5, 5.23) have lagged. Freddy Garcia (0-2, 8.22) was sent to the bullpen, eventually clearing a spot for Andy Pettitte (1-1, 2.51). At .265, the batting average is among the ALs highest -- though not up to the Yankees standards. And the fans are letting them know, with the boos getting louder. "Youre going to hear it on the road, and youre going to hear it at home when you dont play well," Girardi said. "Its because our fans are passionate and they want us to win. And I understand that. So do the guys in that room. If theyre unhappy with us, believe me, were probably unhappier." Girardi was asked Tuesday if he had heard from ownership lately. He said he had received some text messages, "but nothing out of the ordinary." "Im not a guy thats going to go turn over a table. Im not a guy thats going to jump on a table when we win either, and do a dance. Thats not who I am. Ive found that managers who have that pretty constant personality are the ones that get the most out of their players," Girardi said. "These are the guys that have to get it done for us. These are our guys -- that were committed to, that we believe in, that weve seen do it year after year after year." In the quiet clubhouse late Monday night, several players attributed the lack of offence at times -- and the losing -- to bad luck. "More than anything, weve just got to pull together. Weve got to have faith in each other. We know that were all capable of doing the job. The back of everybodys baseball card looks pretty good," Swisher said. "Obviously the start hasnt been good for a lot of us -- its been good for some of us. But weve just got to keep pushing, man, because this team is a never-give-up type of team. And regardless of where we are right now, were going to keep fighting, man, I can promise you that." Cano, Rodriguez and Swisher were among the hitters out early taking extra batting practice or doing early side work Tuesday. Hitting coach Kevin Long said the Yankees record is "not acceptable," but the team is trying to stay as loose as possible and have some fun. "Its tough. Theres not too many people in a good mood, including myself," he said. "Its not for lack of effort. Its not for not paying attention to what were doing. Its just one of those stretches where you scratch your head and you throw your arms up." At 31 years, 222 days, the Yankees easily started the season with the oldest average roster, according to STATS. The Royals -- the youngest at 27 years, 155 days, seemed to have a lot more energy. While acknowledging "the scoreboard definitely speaks for itself," centre fielder Curtis Granderson said the Yankees just have to persevere during their slump and remain in position to make a run. "You know youre going to have some ups and downs," he said. "Right now, as a whole, were pretty much having a down. And thats probably the most interesting thing, the fact that theres so many guys that just havent gotten it going yet. But thats baseball. That means the good side is when we do all finally get it going together, were going to be very tough. "And theres still a long time for everything to go ahead and get on the same page. So it just takes a couple things here and there, a couple balls to fall, a couple balls to go our way," he said. [url=http://www.authenticseahawksshop.com/]http://www.authenticseahawksshop.com/... . Vizquel was caught by Alex Avilas strong throw for the final out Wednesday night, and the Blue Jays lost 3-2 to the Detroit Tigers. Toronto has scored three or fewer runs in six straight games. Barea, who became a starter midway through the 2011 NBA finals against Miami and helped the franchise rally to its first title. Barea, who was injured in two previous trips to Dallas, led the Timberwolves with 21 points. [url=http://www.authenticseahawksshop.com/richard-sherman-jersey.html]http://www... . Anderson and Trent Guy each scored two touchdowns as the Alouettes took the battle for first place in the CFL East Division in an unexpectedly easy 31-10 win on Sunday afternoon. Montreal (8-4) leads the Argonauts (6-6) by four points with six regular season games left for both clubs. [url=http://www.authenticseahawksshop.com/12th-fan-jersey.html]http://www.authen... . After 15 strikeouts in seven innings, Scherzers day was done, and the only question was whether the Detroit right-handers fine effort would go to waste. He was supposed to start Wednesday against Pittsburgh, but was moved back in the rotation to Friday.Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Vancouver Whitecaps FC will be looking to improve its playoff chances while snapping a lengthy winless run when the club welcomes Chivas USA to BC Place tonight. The Whitecaps are in the midst of a seven-game winless streak which has seen the club drop to fifth place in the Western Conference, just two points clear of FC Dallas. Vancouver is coming off of a 0-0 draw with Seattle Sounders FC. It was the first clean sheet kept by the Canadian club since it played to a scoreless draw with Chivas on July 7. "The clean sheet comes from the eleven, not just us four at the back," said defender Jay DeMerit. "Its a team effort. If you look at the guys, there were a lot of tired bodies out there [Saturday]. Thats because we got behind the ball and did our work and we kept a good Seattle team scoreless. Thats the main thing, we have to keep going and now we have to go find the net." The Caps have managed just three goals over their current winless run, but head coach Martin Rennie saw plenty of positives to take away from the clubs Cascadia Cup draw with Seattle. "We defended well [Saturday], we look organized, and we gave up very few chances in the game," said Rennie. "We poossessed the ball well, we created good opportunities and we had a chance at the end to win the game, but I definitely saw progress and a lot to build on going forward.dddddddddddd" An offensive resurgence could be in the cards for Vancouver as it goes up against a Chivas side that has conceded 23 goals in its last eight games. The Goats are coming off of a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Real Salt Lake, a match that head coach Robin Fraser believes Chivas handed to the Claret and Cobalt on a silver platter. "Once again, we shot ourselves in the foot," Fraser told reporters after the match. "Its always difficult to compete when you make critical mistakes and give teams leads." Goalkeeper Dan Kennedy says a silver lining lies in the fact that Chivas has been unlucky in going up against teams gaining momentum, something that would bode well for the Goats against an idle team like Vancouver. "Right now it seems like were getting punished for every small mistake, every little detail we miss, we get punished for it," Kennedy said. "This is a time of year where teams gain momentum for the playoffs or they dont. [Saturday] we ran into a team thats gaining a little bit of momentum." ' ' '
