Christine Sinclair scored twice and Melissa Tancredi added one as Canada knocked off South Africa 3-0, for their first victory of the London 2012 Olympic soccer tournament. Sinclairs first and second goals of London 2012 came in the second half as she headed home a cross in the 58th minute, and followed that up by converting a clear break on net in the 86th to put the game out of reach. These goals pull Sinclair into a tie with American striker Abby Wambach for second all-time in international scoring with 139. Wambach is in action on Saturday against Colombia. There was some confusion as to if the ball crossed the line on her first goal but Sinclair left no doubt by following it up and kicking it into the net. "It was a game we had to win and we did with three goals, so Im pretty happy," said Sinclair following the game. "Weve got to win now against Sweden." Only seven minutes into the match, Ancaster, Ontario native Tancredi made an impact as she collected a cross just inside the box and slid her her 20th international goal past South African keeper Thokozile Mndaweni to give Canada an early lead. "We knew South Africa would be good up and down and it was a just acase of us weathering the storm," said Tancredi. "They were always going to play until the end,and they did, but I think we did well to clear things up." South Africa managed seven shots on net including a 22nd minute chance that initially looked dangerous, however the Canadian keeper turned them all away on her way to picking up a clean sheet in the win. In the 82nd minute Canadian midfielder Diana Matheson came close to cracking the scoreboard as she rang one off the crossbar. She believes Sinclair has the quality of the other top scorer playing in the tournament. "We actually have our own race - her goals against my caps, and she will give Abby a good race, too," said Matheson. Unfortunately the news was not all positive for Canada in their victory.
