DENVER -- Rockies pitcher Alex White homered and Colorado finally solved a struggling Ryan Vogelsong, beating the San Francisco Giants 6-5 Monday night to snap a five-game losing streak. Buster Posey and Hunter Pence went deep for the Giants, who lost for only the second time in 10 road games. San Franciscos lead in the NL West was trimmed to five games over the idle Los Angeles Dodgers. Trailing 6-2, the Giants got a two-run homer from Posey in the seventh inning off reliever Rex Brothers and pulled within one in the eighth. Brandon Crawford drew a one-out walk from Matt Belisle, pinch-hitter Aubrey Huff singled and Angel Pagan followed with an RBI double, his third hit of the game. Belisle got out of the jam by retiring Marco Scutaro and Pablo Sandoval. Guillermo Moscoso (2-1) picked up the victory by working two innings, allowing one run on three hits. Rafael Betancourt pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his 28th save in 33 chances. Colorado manager Jim Tracy was ejected in the bottom of the seventh by second base umpire Angel Campos after a heated argument over an inning-ending double play. Campos ruled that Scutaro tagged Josh Rutledge before throwing to first to get Carlos Gonzalez. Tracy, ejected for the third time this season, argued that Scutaro missed the tag. The Rockies also lost catcher Ramon Hernandez to a left hamstring strain sustained while running out a double in the fourth. He was replaced by pinch-runner Wilin Rosario, who advanced when Chris Nelson reached on first baseman Brandon Belts fielding error and came home on Charlie Blackmons double-play grounder. Vogelsong (12-8) allowed four runs and six hits over five innings in losing for the first time in seven career starts against the Rockies while with the Giants. The outing extended a tough stretch over his last six starts since Aug. 13 in which he has gone 2-3, allowing 28 runs on 43 hits in 26 1-3 innings for an ERA of 9.57. The right-hander entered 5-0 with a 1.80 ERA in six previous starts against the Rockies for the Giants, who had won all six games. But he was in trouble from the outset this time, allowing successive doubles to Tyler Colvin and Rutledge, the first two batters he faced. One out later, Jordan Pacheco hit an RBI single to put the Rockies up 2-0. White hit his first career homer in the second, offsetting a drive he allowed in the top of the inning to Pence for the Giants first run. White was lifted after allowing one run on six hits in four innings after throwing 76 pitches, roughly the limit for starting pitchers in the Rockies unorthodox four-man rotation. A two-out error by Sandoval on Rosarios grounder to third opened the door to a pair of runs by the Rockies in the sixth. Nelson followed with a run-scoring triple and Blackmon added an RBI single to build a four-run lead. NOTES: LHP Josh Outman was recalled from Double-A Tulsa before the game by the Rockies. ... Hamiltons third career grand slam highlighted an eight-run fourth and Derek Holland pitched seven effective innings as the Rangers beat the Cleveland Indians 9-1 on Wednesday night. Hamiltons 21st homer and Mike Napolis 26th were the key blows off rookie David Huff (2-5) in the decisive fourth, Texas biggest inning since an 11-run fifth against Tampa Bay on Sept. 26, 2009. "Everybodys feeding off each other," Hamilton said. "Up and down the lineup, one through nine, there are no easy outs. Were focusing on one good at-bat at a time, and it snowballs from there." Holland (14-5) allowed one run and six hits with six strikeouts and three walks. He has won eight of his last nine decisions, a stretch that began on July 7. The eight-run fourth simplified Hollands job and continued strong support from his teammates. Texas averages 7.50 runs each time Holland starts, but he said he couldnt afford to relax despite the eight-run lead. "The big thing is you cant think like that," Holland said. "Youve got to go back out and pitch. Youve got to stay focused ... (but) that inning was pretty exciting, awesome to watch." Ian Kinsler also homered for the AL West-leading Rangers, who have won three straight and maintained a three-game lead over second-place Los Angeles, which beat Oakland 4-1 on Wednesday. The Rangers are 10-1 against the Indians over the last two seasons and have outscored Cleveland 19-5 in the last two meetings. "Thats what a team that was in the World Series last year looks like, a team that will probably win their division," Indians manager Manny Acta said. "We have some catching up to do." Lonnie Chisenhall homered for the Indians, who have lost seven of nine overall. Huff allowed eight runs -- although only three were earned due to a fielding error in the fourth by Chisenhall at third base on Kinslers two-out grounder -- and seven hits in four innings. Clevelands Shelley Duncan made two leaping catches at the wall in left field in the first inning to rob Elvis Andrus and Hamilton of extra-base hits. Then in the second inning, he made a similar catch in the same area to deny Michael Young extra bases. "Weird, to say thhe least," Acta said of three standout catches in a short span by a player not known for his defence.dddddddddddd "For three balls to go in the same spot in the first four outs, youre never done seeing new things in baseball. He made good plays on those balls." But in the fourth, Duncan was unable to flag down Youngs double into the left field corner that scored Hamilton, who was on first with a leadoff walk. Young has 196 hits as he pursues his sixth career 200-hit season. One out later, Napoli hit a two-run homer, a 420-foot drive that landed on the grass hitting background in centre field. Andrus infield single knocked in the fourth run of the inning. Hamilton followed with his grand slam on a high 1-2 fastball from Huff to complete the eight-run outburst. "He threw me a heater up, I swung and missed," Hamilton said. "I figured hed throw it again and he did. I got just enough of the bat on it to get it out." Huff said the pitch to Hamilton "was supposed to be a fastball down and away and I left it over the middle belt high. He doesnt miss very many like that. You dont keep the ball down, you suffer." NOTES: Texas 3B Adrian Beltres double in the second extended his career-best hitting streak to 18 games. ... The Rangers will start RHP Alexi Ogando (12-8) in Thursday nights series finale against Clevelands Fausto Carmona (6-14). There had been speculation that Ogandos turn might be skipped or he might be sent to the bullpen after losing his last three decisions, but manager Ron Washington said the all-star will stay in the rotation. ... Rangers OF Nelson Cruz took extra swings in early batting practice as he continues to recover from a left hamstring strain. Cruz was activated on Tuesday, and he appeared as a pinch-hitter in the eighth, striking out. Cruz still wont be able to play the outfield for a few more days, although he could be used as a DH. ... Indians OF Shin-Soo Choo is expected to be activated and start on Thursday night. Choo has been on the 15-day DL since Sept. 1 with a left oblique strain. ... Texas OF Craig Gentry is 18 for 18 in stolen base attempts this season after swiping second and third in the third. ...
