LONDON -- Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand on Thursday denied an English Football Association charge of improper conduct over a Twitter comment he made about Chelsea rival Ashley Cole. The FA said in a statement that Ferdinand has requested a personal hearing in the case. Ferdinands remark followed a racism trial last month in which Coles teammate John Terry was cleared of racially abusing Ferdinands brother, Queens Park Rangers defender Anton, during a Premier League match last October. Cole, who along with the Ferdinands is black, appeared in court as a defence witness. Ferdinand later seemed to endorse a tweet describing Cole as a "choc ice," a slang term perceived as meaning black on the outside and white on the inside. Ferdinand tweeted: "I hear you fella! Choc ice is classic hahahahahaha!!" Ferdinand later tweeted that it was "not a racist term. Its a type of slang/term used by many for someone who is being fake." Cole said he didnt plan to complain. The FA said the allegation facing Ferdinand is "that the player acted in a way which was improper and/or brought the game into disrepute by making comments which included a reference to ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race." The EC Red Bull Salzburg hockey club is seeking legal advice after Columbus Blue Jackets forward Derick Brassard became the latest NHL player to leave the Austrian team. The 25-year-old joined the team in November and had four goals and one assist in six games for Red Bull. The club said on its website on Wednesday that Brassard had assured them last week he would stay. "Red Bull will be notifying the IIHF of the players breach of contract and will seek legal advice," the club statement said. It said Brassard cleared out his locker on Monday and left the next day, despite warnings from club officials. "He was told not to do anything hasty that he might regret later, and he was reminded in no uncertain terms of his contractuual situation," it said.dddddddddddd. Red Bull is in ninth place in the Austrian league. The club is led by former NHL head coach Pierre Page and lists NHL players Brassard, Johnny Boychuk and Alex Auld on its roster. However, the team has had trouble keeping NHL players this season. Brassard, his Columbus teammate Derek Dorsett, Winnipeg Jets defenceman Tobias Enstrom and New Jersey forward David Clarkson have all left shortly after signing. Brassards agent Allan Walsh fired back that NHL players left the team because of its "unprofessional" management," saying one player called the club "a joke." He said Brassard returned home to Ottawa to wait for the NHL lockout to end. ' ' '
