SANDY, Utah - Real Salt Lake won its fourth straight match to move into third place in the overall Major League Soccer standings with a 1-0 over Sporting Kansas City on Saturday. Even a draw would have moved the Kansas City club above Columbus. In Seattle, Alvaro Fernandez scored twice to help Seattle beat D.C. United before a sellout crowd that helped them set a new MLS attendance record. The 36,242 fans at CenturyLink Field gave the Sounders attendance of 553,987 with two home games remaining. That breaks the mark of 542,600 they set last season. The Sounders have set a new league attendance record each season since joining MLS in 2009. Mike Fucito opened the scoring for the Sounders in the 35th minute. Mauro Rosales set up that goal and the second from Fernandez in first-half stoppage time. Ferandez added another off a loose ball in the 60th minute. In Frisco, Texas, Luke Rodgers scored in the 36th minute and New York hung on to win at Dallas and snap an eight-game winless streak. The win moved New York within three points of a playoff-yielding third in the Eastern Conference and within five points of top spot despite the recent form slump. Both teams were without their leading scorers. Red Bulls star Thierry Henry had achilles tendon inflammation while Dallas Brek Shea was suspended. In Chester, Pennsylvania, Sebastien Le Toux scored his team-leading seventh goal in the 32nd minute as Philadelphia snapped an eight-match winless streak by beating Columbus. A standing room-only sellout of 18,906 at PPL Park saw Philadelphia win for the first time since mid-July and notch its first ever win over Columbus at the fourth attempt. Union moved into third place in the Eastern Conference, two points behind the Crew and one point behind Sporting Kansas City. Columbus is winless in four games. In Carson, California, Mike Magee scored twice and Robbie Keane added the other as Los Angeles downed Vancouver. Keane helped set up Magees goal in the 40th minute and finished with a header in the 64th. Magee later added an insurance goal for the Galaxy. MLS-leading Los Angeles which stayed unbeaten in 15 home matches. In Toronto, Danny Koevermans scored twice in the second half to lift Toronto over Colorado. He tapped in an Ashtone Morgan cross to put the hosts ahead and the Dutch striker made it 2-0 with a glancing header off a cross from the right by Nick Soolsma. Gambian striker Sanna Nyassi scored for the Rapids in the 69th, burying the ball high in the net from close range. In Houston, substitute Will Bruin scored in the 79th minute to send Houston its first win in nearly a month, downing San Jose. In Bridgeview, Illinois, Dominic Oduro scored the 85th minute winner to give 10-man Chicago victory over Chivas. Fire defender Cory Gibbs scored with a second-minute header, and the hosts went up 2-0 in the 25th via an own-goal by Chivas striker Juan Pablo Angel. Even after a failed doping test earlier this year, the former welterweight champion insists he has always been a clean fighter. "Me and my family, we pride ourselves off of hard work, thats it," Berto said. "Thats what everybody I know comes from. When the situation happened, it definitely hurt us, because we know what type of people we are. Everybody thats close to us, they know we pride ourselves off hard work. Nothing else in between." Berto (28-1, 22 KOs) realizes his reputation could have been indelibly stained in many boxing minds by his positive test in May for norandrosterone, a detectable metabolite of nandrolone, scrapping a high-profile rematch of his only loss to Victor Ortiz. Without being publicly specific, the fighter and his camp have claimed the positive test was due to contamination from a nutritional supplement or food, a common complaint among athletes in several sports who have been accused of nandrolone usage. The California State Athletic Commission believed the fighters evidence, licensing Berto in August. After a 14-month ring absence, Berto will meet former 135-pound champion Robert Guerrero at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif., on Nov. 24 in a welterweight title bout. Berto and Guerrero met at the downtown Grammy Museum on Tuesday, posing for a good-natured faceoff to formally announce their fight. Bertos fight to reclaim his reputation will go on a bit longer than those 12 rounds. "I knew I didnt do anything wrong," Berto said. "Thats why I felt that I wasnt through with (boxing). It hurt me to a point, because I cant believe that it happened the way it did, and to be realistic, there wasnt any type of explanation for it on my end. I just had to go through that process of taking the criticism and walking through that dark aisle until everything came to the forefront, which it did." Berto has said his urine samples contained only minuscule evidence of nandrolone, an anabolic steroid that sometimes can be detected 18 months after its use, making it an exceptionally poor choice for any aspiring dopers. Bertos contamination complaints were backed up by Victor Conte, the founder of BALCO Laboratories, who worked with Berto before his failed test. On Tuesday, Berto said he and Conte "are still friends. Hes a good guy. Everything he does is legit nowadays." Bertos frustration only surfaces when hes asked whether his doping test could cast a shadow over his entire pro career. A south Florida native with a mixxed-martial-artist father and two fighting siblings, Berto competed for Haiti at the Athens Olympics before winning the WBCs 147-pound title in 2008 and making five defences.dddddddddddd Berto believes the California commissions decision vindicates him, and hes confident his fans agree. "Weve proven everything," Berto said. "Youve seen everybody else that got caught in that type of situation, theyve been (suspended) for a year, theyve been gone for a certain amount of time. Us, we came to the table, went through the correct steps with the commission, and they went back and tested those products, and they saw exactly what it was. They said we didnt do anything at all, and thats why were back." Others will be tougher to persuade. Guerrero said he has no idea whether Berto is telling the truth. "Who knows?" Guerrero asked without a smile. "Only God knows. ... It doesnt make me nervous at all, because knowing that hes failed it once, I dont think hes going to fail it again. You fail it twice, your career is done." Guerrero and Berto are being tested by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency instead of the Las Vegas-based Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency, which discovered Bertos positive test. Berto is still angry with VADA, claiming the agency should have done further investigation into the reasons behind his results before releasing them. Berto also said hes "being more careful" in his preparations for this fight, watching his diet and his associations under the guidance of Al Haymon, the ingenious dealmaker behind Floyd Mayweather Jr.s career. Berto moved his training camp back home to Florida after working and living in Los Angeles in recent years, saying its easier to get away from distractions in the Miami area than in Hollywood. Berto has been in training for weeks without knowing the identity of his next opponent. He considered moving up to 154 pounds to fight IBF champion Cornelius Bundrage, but when Guerrero couldnt land a fight with Timothy Bradley Jr., Golden Boy put Berto and Guerrero together. Berto sparred 12 rounds just a few days ago, saying hes "in ridiculous shape" and ready to take out his frustrations on the welterweight division. "You learn a tremendous amount, about myself, about the people around me, and just about this business," Berto said. "You get to a point that sometimes, just being in the spotlight is great, but certain things happen, it can really take you to a dark place. Ive been blessed enough just to work my way out of it, and Im excited, Im happy to be back in front of the fans and give them what they want to see." ' ' '
