EDINBURGH CITY COLTS were blown away by a hat trick from Hillfield Swifts' Alisdair Brown in the Eastern Region Youth FA's under 16 Division 2 League Cup final Troy Niklas Jersey at Paties Road.
With the stand at the Craiglockhart venue full, the teams ran out nervously, if not overawed, for the final despite the fact that both outfits are still in the hunt for the Second Division championship title.
It took almost 20 minutes before either team tested the respective goalkeepers, and it was Hillfield Swifts who drew first blood through a great follow up from captain Dylan Wilkinson, whose close range shot gave the City keeper no chance and put the Fife team ahead.
The game opened up after this as both teams shrugged of their early nerves and both keepers made good saves until the 38th minute when Edinburgh City Colts struck back with a tremendous 25 yard drive from John Dickson to bring the game even at half time.
With the Paties Road Deo... Bucannon XXL Jersey pitch looking in great condition after the earlier rain, it was Hillfield who again took the lead in the second half through Brown, who finished off a good move instigated by Wilkinson.
City Colts were not finished and again used their passing game to work their way back into the game and an excellent strike from Ousman See finished with his shot sneaking into the top corner of the net.
It was game on after this and both teams produced some great football that was a credit to the second division and, on this performance, neither team would look out of place in the First Division.
As the daylight started to fade, Brown took matters into his own hands and struck an excellent 14 yard shot which left the City Colts keeper helpless and, with just four minutes remaining of the contest, he netted another to make sure that the large Fife contingent in the crowd would celebrate into the night after what was an excellent game.
