MIAMI -- Giancarlo Stanton closed out his best month yet with a home run, and the Miami Marlins concluded their best month ever with another comeback win. Stanton hit his 12th home run in May to tie the franchise record for a single month and the Marlins completed a three-game sweep of the first-place Washington Nationals with a 5-3 win Wednesday night. Stanton hit a solo homer in the seventh inning, his 13th this year, and had a two-out RBI single in the first. Still only 22, Stanton tied Dan Ugglas team record for the most homers in a month and totalled 30 RBIs in May. With the Marlins off Thursday, Stanton said hes not sorry to see the month end. "The seasons not May," he said. "Keep going." Since the start of the expansion era in 1961, the only other player under age 23 to total more homers and RBIs in a single month was Bob Horner in 1980, the Marlins said, citing information from the Elias Sports Bureau. "Impressive," said teammate Josh Johnson, who pitched six innings for the win. "He can do that all year long. Were excited to have him on the team." The Marlins rallied from a 3-1 deficit and lead the majors with 20 comeback victories. They went 21-8 in May, best in the majors, and a franchise record for victories in any month. "Things are finally coming together as they should," Stanton said. "Its games and series like these that show how good we are." Miami is seven games above .500 for the first time and trails Washington by one-half game in the NL East. The Marlins went 7-3 during their longest homestand of the year. "Were in a great position," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "I dont see any reason why we cant continue to play the way were playing." Johnson (3-3) gave up three runs before settling down and singled home the tying run with his first hit of the year. He then dirtied the front of his uniform with a headfirst slide into second base. "My son is going to be pumped, because thats all he asks about -- hitting and sliding," Johnson said. "Hell love it." Johnson and Anibal Sanchez are a combined 16-0 against the Nationals. Sanchez beat them Tuesday. Edward Mujica retired all six batters he faced, and Heath Bell followed with a scoreless ninth for his third save in the series and 10th this year in 14 chances. Bell struck out pinch hitter Rick Ankiel with runners at the corners to end the game and lowered his ERA to 7.20. Miamis Jose Reyes had two singles and extended the NLs longest active hitting streak to 11 games. Hanley Ramirez had three hits and went 8 for 10 in the series to hike his average to .275. Stantons latest tape-measure homer came on a 2-2 slider off Ryan Perry. The estimated distance was 413 feet. "You cant make a mistake on a hitter thats as big and strong as him," Nationals manager Davey Johnson said. "Perry threw him a little backup slider and, man, did he straighten it out." Danny Espinosa had a triple and an RBI single and scored twice for the Nationals, and Roger Bernadina drove in two runs. Washington went 1 for 7 with runners in scoring position and 2 for 19 in the series in those situations while scoring only seven runs. The Nationals finished 15-13 this month, their best May since the franchise moved to Washington in 2005. They concluded a 5-4 trip. "It doesnt feel good to get swept," Espinosa said. "But if you look at the overall picture, we did play well on the road." Washingtons Chien-Ming Wang (1-1), making his first start of the season, allowed four runs in four-plus innings. "I think my tempo tonight was a bit on and off," Wang said through a translator. "Sometimes I felt rushed, sometimes felt too slow. Im kind of disappointed in myself." Catcher Jhonatan Solano, who joined the Nationals on Tuesday, made several defensive contributions in his first major-league start. His sweep tag in the second inning nabbed Bryan Petersen trying to score from third on a flyout to right fielder Bernadina. Solano twice threw out Ramirez trying to steal second base. Notes: RHP Henry Rodriguez was the latest player to get hurt for the injury-plagued Nationals. He slammed a finger on his right hand in a bathroom door and threw on the side Wednesday wearing a rubber protective piece. Davey Johnson said Rodriguez might be available to pitch Friday. ... Marlins 2B Omar Infante made a diving catch of Bryce Harpers liner to rob the rookie in the fifth. ... Ramirez hiked his career average against the Nationals to .380 (76 for 200). ... Uggla hit 12 homers in May 2008. ... Donovan Solano affectionately tapped the shin guard of the Nationals catcher -- his brother -- stepping to the plate to pinch hit in the eighth. He then walked. People were friendlier to him and his family. Everything, he said, seemed more fun. Michael Jordan Black Jersey.Lazare, Que., rebounded from a shaky preliminary round to advance to the mens three-metre final at a FINA Grand Prix diving meet Friday. Michael Jordan Youth Jersey. Canada built an 8-1 lead through three innings before Australia fought back to within one run in the fifth. Canada went ahead 17-8 after six innings before Australia scored five seventh-inning runs. His contract was scheduled to expire Feb. 16, but Buck Pierce never expected hed be testing CFL free agency this off-season. The veteran quarterback opted to stay put Thursday, re-signing with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Contract terms werent made available but Pierce reportedly received a three-year deal. And Pierce, who is entering his eighth CFL season and third in Winnipeg, said there was never a question in his mind regarding where hed be playing football in 2012. "No, there really wasnt because both parties wanted to make this work," Pierce said. We didnt expect it to take so long . . . but we both wanted it to get done the right way that would work best for both of us. "There was never any doubt in my mind that it wouldnt get done. Its a good day for both me and the organization." It was also a good day for Bombers GM Joe Mack, who signed a contract extension that will keep him with the CFL club through the 2014 CFL season. Pierce, 30, registered career highs in 2011 in starts (16), completions (261), attempts (411), yards passing (3,348) and yards rushing (324) in leading Winnipeg (10-8) atop the East Division standings after posting a league-worst 4-14-0 record in 2010. But there would be no fairy tale ending for the Bombers. After dispatching Hamilton 19-3 in the conference final, Winnipeg lost a 34-23 decision to the B.C. Lions in the Grey Cup. Winnipeg hasnt captured a Grey Cup title since 1990, leaving Pierce feeling he and the Bombers have some unfinished business in the Manitoba capital. "Weve set a benchmark for ourselves and thats something thats not been around here," Pierce said. "Were going to continue to work towards our ultimate goal, and thats the mark now. "We came off a 4-14 season (in 2010) and had a great year last year. We know how to win, we know what it takes to get there. Now we just have to do the little things that will get us over the top." With contract talks done, Pierce can concentrate on touching base with Gary Crowton, who was hired earlier this week as Winnipegs new offensive co-ordinator. Pierce and the Bombers wont have the element of surprise working for them in 2012. Also, conference rivals the Toronto Argonauts and Hamilton Tiger-Cats have re-loaded this off-season while the Montreal Alouettes -- the 2008-09 Grey Cup champions -- will have both head coach Marc Trestman and GM Jim Popp back after both were interviewed for positions with the NFLs Indianapolis Colts. Not only do Toronto and Hamilton have new offensive-minded head coaches in Scott Milanovich and George Cortez, respectively, theyll also have proven veterans under centre. The Argos acquired two-time Grey Cup-champion Ricky Ray from Edmonton while the Ticats landed 08 CFL MVP Henry Burris from Calgary. And once again Montreals offence will be led by veteran quarterback Anthony Calvillo, pro footballs all-time passing leader who will return for a 19th CFL season. Pierce admits the arrival of both Ray and Burris into the East Division will make repeating tougher on the Bombers, who also wont have the element of surprise heading into the 2012 season.ddddddddddddHowever, Pierce modestly added that Winnipeg will be more concerned this year about what it controls -- like its preparation -- than what other teams are doing or have done. "We have to win the East, no matter what, to get to where we want to be," he said. "For us and myself, its worrying about what we do and I think everything else will take care of itself." Mack is in the third season of his second go-around with Winnipeg. He served as the Bombers player-personnel director from 1984 to 87, earning a Grey Cup ring his first season with the CFL club. Mack also captured a Super Bowl ring in 91 as the Washington Redskins pro-personnel director. Mack also served with the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers and Cleveland Browns as well as the XFLs New York Hitmen. He worked as an independent sports consultant before returning to Winnipeg. Like Pierce, Mack said he never questioned whether the extension would get done. "The people and fans of Winnipeg have been great to me and I cant say how much I appreciate the support Ive received from the board of directors of the Winnipeg football club," Mack said. "I feel very grateful." Mack is also grateful to have defensive co-ordinator Tim Burke back with the club in 2012 after he was a finalist for the Ticats head-coaching position. Burke was the architect of a Bombers rugged defence that wreaked havoc on opposing quarterbacks last year and anchored the clubs amazing transformation. Mack said the wait for Burke did result in contract talks with Pierce extending a little longer than originally anticipated. When healthy, theres no questioning Pierces ability to lead an offence. Trouble is, he has battled injuries throughout his CFL career, something Mack says was addressed in contract talks. "I gave consideration to what Buck has meant to the organization overall, the fact hes been extremely tough, hes been a leader and I anticipate him continuing that," Mack said. "I acknowledged that and factored that into the contract while Buck also acknowledges theres that medical history so I think its a balancing act between the two. "I wanted to acknowledge the contributions Buck has made while he and I both acknowledged the fact that there was this other factor that at to be at least some component of the balancing act in regards to the contract." However, Mack doesnt have the luxury of time to sit back and enjoy the added job security. A number of Bombers players -- notably backup quarterback Alex Brink and starting offensive linemen Brendon Labatte, Steve Morley and Glenn January -- are all poised to become free agents later this month. Mack feels hes close to reaching a deal with Brink and same hes had "fruitful" discussions with Labatte. Mack is hopeful hell have Brink and possibly two key offensive linemen under contract before the start of free agency. ' ' '
