ST. LOUIS -- Jeff Fisher has absolutely no problem with Cortland Finnegans occasional over-the-top behaviour. The St. Louis Rams first move in free agency was reuniting Fisher, who coached Finnegan for five seasons in Tennessee, with the feisty, productive cornerback. Fisher agreed to terms Wednesday on a five-year, $50 million contract with $27 million guaranteed and $33 million coming in the first three seasons. With incentives, Finnegan could make another $1 million in incentives over the life of the contract. "His reputation is widely misunderstood out there from the standpoint of, you know, the dirty player type thing and all that," Fisher said at a news conference Wednesday. "Hes just a very productive player. "He plays with an edge -- yeah, he does. He challenges and he competes and he finishes every down." The 28-year-old Finnegan had played all six NFL seasons with the Titans. He was undergoing a physical and Fisher planned a news conference Thursday morning to introduce the player. Finnegan just completed a four-year, $16.8 million contract and turned down several other opportunities to visit teams because of his respect for Fisher. Another Tennessee player, defensive lineman Jason Jones, was also visiting Rams Park. "We are recruiting Jason right now," Fisher said. "We hope to have a chance to get things worked out." Finnegan was an All-Pro in 2008 and is known for his physical style. He got into a punching match with Texans star wide receiver Andre Johnson during a game in 2010 -- both were fined $25,000 -- and had at least two other incidents that season. He was fined $5,000 for throwing Giants wide receiver Steve Smith to the ground and fined $10,000 for hitting Denver guard Chris Kuper after the player had taken off his helmet. At one point that season, Finnegan said he wanted to be known as the dirtiest player in the NFL. Later that season, he claimed he was just joking. Finnegan also walked out of training camp in 2008 during negotiations for a contract extension, apologizing the next day. The Titans drafted Finnegan in the seventh round in 2006 out of tiny Samford in Birmingham, Ala. Hes been very durable, missing just three games the last five seasons since becoming a starter. He had five interceptions in both 2008 and 09. Finnegan replaces Ron Bartell as the Rams top coverage cornerback. Bartell was among several veteran players released by the Rams, saving them about $20 million in salary cap space and leaving them with the NFLs youngest roster with an average age of 25.3 years. Bartell missed virtually all of last season after fracturing two bones in his neck in the opener against the Eagles and saves the team $6.25 million in cap space. He passed a physical exam recently, but Fisher said the Rams were committed to "starting over" and building primarily through the draft. St. Louis is 10-38 the last three seasons, costing coach Steve Spagnuolo and general manager Billy Devaney their jobs. Along with the 30-year-old Bartell, defensive end James Hall (35), defensive tackles Fred Robbins (34) and Justin Bannan (32), and centre Jason Brown (28) have been cut. Fisher said it was a coincidence the Rams first two targets in free agency were Titans players. "We didnt sit down and say, Hey, lets go get all the Titan and Falcon players we possibly can," Fisher said, referring to general manager Les Sneads former position in Atlanta. "It just so happened that two of the top guys on our list were my former players. "Its just about getting the right people." The most pressing need for the Rams going forward is probably finding a wide receiver to complement their investment in quarterback Sam Bradford, the top pick of the 2010 draft. Danny Amendola is healthy after missing virtually all of last season with an elbow injury, but free agent Brandon Lloyd, who added a spark last season, is unlikely to return. The Rams missed out on Pierre Garcon, Vincent Jackson and Reggie Wayne, among others, on the first day of free agency. Fisher said there were a lot of good prospects in this years draft class. The Rams could also make a trade. "Its a position that were going to address and well continue to address, and well fill the need," Fisher said. Fisher said he had no timetable for when the NFL might rule on defensive co-ordinator Gregg Williams bounty scandal. Fisher said Williams was "totally involved with everything" while awaiting whats expected to be at least a heavy fine and suspension. ... Marchisio Soccer Jersey . Both games can be seen live on TSN, TSN.ca and TSN Mobile TV. The winners advance to the semifinals, while the losers are knocked out of medal contention. Finland and Slovakia are playing now, with the winner getting a date with Sweden in the semifinals on Tuesday. Finland was 3-1 in the round robin, with their only loss coming against the unbeaten Canadians. Since getting drubbed 8-1 by the hosts, Finland looked impressive in three straight wins, beating the United States 4-1, thumping Denmark 10-1 and then blanking a solid Czech team 4-0. Teemu Pulkkinen leads Finland with five goals and eight points. Highly-touted brothers Mikael and Markus Granlund have combined for 11 points. Slovakia made the medal round with a stirring 6-4 win over Switzerland in their final round-robin game, coming from two down in the third period to advance. Its been an up and down tournament for the Slovaks, though. They were relatively unimpressive in a 3-1 win over Latvia and got shelled 9-1 by the Swedes, but played Russia tough in a 3-1 loss. Then after looking like a beaten team for two periods, Slovakia had the big finish to top the Swiss and avoid relegation. Scoring has been tough for Slovakia, which got six of their 11 goals in one game. Only two players have more than one goal -- Matus Chovan is the teams top scorer with three goals. When these teams met in last years tournament, Finland won 6-0. Russia and the Czech Republic get the second quarterfinal started at 9pm et/6pm pt. Canada will be watching closely, as the winner will face the host squad in Tuesdays semifinals. If history is any indication, the Czechs will be in tough.dddddddddddd. Russia has won seven straight meetings in this tournament since the Czechs last win in January of 2000. Aside from 20 crucial minutes against Sweden, the Russians have been a dominant force in this tournament. They have the tournaments best powerplay (45%), and have been a perfect 20-for-20 on the penalty kill. They have the best save percentage (.968) and two players tied for the tournament scoring lead (Nikita Gusev and Yevgeni Kuznetsov are tied with Mark Stone of Canada with nine points). After beating Switzerland 3-0 and Latvia 3-1, Russia unloaded on Latvia with a 14-0 whitewash. In the final round-robin game against Sweden, and with first place in Group A up for grabs, Russia held a 3-0 leading heading into the third period. The Russians, though, crumbled under relentless Swedish pressure and fell 4-3 in overtime. This is the fifth straight year Russia has been forced to play a quarterfinal game. They are 3-1 in the last four, the only loss coming against Switzerland in 2010.The last time the Czechs won a quarterfinal game was 2005, but they are a dangerous team. They were 2-2 in the round-robin, with big losses to Canada and Finland balanced against big wins over Denmark and the United States. They have a fairly balanced attack with three players having counted three goals (Petr Holik, Thomas Hertl and Tomas Filippi). That being said, no player has more than three points. Petr Mrazek has played all four games in goal and has a 2.75 GAA and a save percentage of .917 for the Czechs. They have also taken more penalties than any team in the tournament, something the Czechs will want to curb against the Russians and their top-rated powerplay. Earlier today, Switzerland beat Denmark 4-3 in overtime, clinching a spot in the top group next year. ' ' '
