Ravens rewrite cheap nfl jerseys misdeeds
Instead of Sterling Moore defending a desperation pass and Billy Cundiff missing a field, Devin McCourty was whistled for pass interference and newly imported kicker Justin Tucker drilled a 27 yard field goal at the last second to deliver the Baltimore Ravens to a 31 30 victory over the New England Patriots at M Bank Stadium.
Call it a mulligan, a rewrite with a better ending for Baltimore even if it came 247 days late and under circumstances that will leave everyone who witnessed the contest wondering if what they saw was legitimate.
The events leading up the kick were questionable, as the referees lost control of the game and were serenaded by the crowd of 71,269 with a chant that sounded like bull spit. Even the kick itself can't be accepted without question, as it passed directly above the left upright and was never reviewed despite New England coach Bill Belichick physically grabbing the referee and begging him to do so.
"I'm not going to comment on that. You saw the game," Belichick said after the Patriots loss, which knocked them to 1 2 and put them under .500 for the first time in 145 games. "What did we have, 30 penalties called in that game?"
It was actually 24 for 218 total yards, and while everyone bit their tongue over the officiating while speaking with the media, some couldn't stop from sharing their thoughts.
"Can someone please tell these f zebras foot locker called and they're needed Back at work," linebacker Brandon Spikes tweeted after the game.
While the commissioner's office isn't going to like Spikes' comments, his frustration isn't completely unjustified. The sheer number of penalties never allowed either team to get in a flow and a number of cheap jerseys questionable calls occurred over the final four minutes of the game.
There was a Tom Brady pass intended for Wes Welker that intercepted by Ladarius Webb on third and 9 that came back after an illegal contact penalty, giving New England a new set of downs. That was later followed by an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Baltimore's Albert McClellan following a scuffle with Logan Mankins.
Both infractions sent the Baltimore crowd into a frenzy, and they began their chant which carried on for a good five minutes.
They quickly settled on the next drive, which quarterback Joe Flacco completed 4 of 5 passes for 45 yards on, in addition to the 27 yard pass interference call Jones drew on McCourty at the 9 yard line. New England could have won on the play before as Kyle Arrington put himself in position to make an interception on a pass intended for Anquan Bolden, but he slipped while in Wholesale NFL Jerseys pursuit of the ball.
No matter, some of the calls left a sour taste in the participants' mouths.
"It's very frustrating, but what can you do?" defensive tackle Vince Wilfork said of the penalties. "We're an aggressive defense. It takes away from our aggressiveness at times. The things we try to do, it takes away and we're hesitant to do this, do that, but have to play within the rules."
Does he know what the rules are with the replacement refs?
"I know what the rules are," Wilfork said. "But, hey, it's not up to me. I'm not throwing the flags."
The aggressiveness Wilfork spoke of was prevalent early in the game as the Patriots took an early 13 0 lead and were in position to turn the game into a blowout.
They didn't allow the Ravens to record a first down until the second quarter, but then allowed Baltimore to score on three consecutive drives to take a 21 20 lead on the opening drive of the third quarter. Then, just like that, as if to say they were just messing with everyone, New England reverted back to the unit that started the game and reclaimed control until they lost it.
Using Baltimore cornerback Cary Williams as his whipping boy, Tom Brady (28 of 41, 335 yards) moved the Patriots 77 yards on 11 plays to set up a three yard touchdown run by Danny Woodhead that put New England back on top, 27 21. Brady targeted Williams four times for 41 yards on the drive.
The Patriots then forced Baltimore to punt on their next drive and took control by answering with a field goal that made it 30 21. Baltimore threatened to push their way back in the game at that point, but a failed run on fourth and 1 with a little more than 10 minutes remaining made it appear as though the game was out of reach.
The Ravens got a stop on the Patriots next drive and then added a touchdown on a 5 yard pass to Torrey Smith, who was playing despite losing his 19 yard old brother in a motorcycle accident earlier in the day, to make it 30 28 with 4:01 remaining. It was his second touchdown of the day.
