Canada continued their final Olympic preparations with a 2-0 win over New Zealand in their second game of the Match World Womens Cup. Diana Matheson opened the scoring half an hour into the first half and Christine Sinclair capped off the afternoon in Chatel-St.-Denis with the second goal of the game. It was Canadas 11th win of the year.Sinclairs goal, her 16th of the season, ties her own national team record. It was also her 136th goal all-time for her country.Mathesons goal came right on the half hour mark as the diminutive midfielder was played in on the left side. She then cut inside and saw that New Zealand goalkeeper Jenny Bindon was off her line. Matheson then lifted a deft chip in from just outside of the 18-yard box that eluded to outstretched Kiwi goalkeeper.That goal proved to be the winner as Canadian head coach John Herdman picked up his first win against New Zealand in his first game coaching against the team he used to coach.Sinclair provided the insurance just two minutes into the second half. Sophie Schmidt played a nice ball to the side that sprung Sinclair in on goal.
