(Sports Network) - A Game 1 win by the Miami Heat over Indiana in the Eastern Conference semifinals has morphed into concern over an abdominal injury to star big man Chris Bosh. Bosh, who scored 13 points before suffering the injury shortly before halftime of the Heats 95-86 victory on Sunday, is out indefinitely after an MRI on Monday confirmed a strained lower abdominal muscle. Watch tonights game live on TSN2 at 7pm et/4pm pt. Miami was able to persevere without its top interior presence thanks in large part to newly-minted NBA MVP LeBron James, who had 32 points, 15 rebounds and five assists as the Heat grinded out the Game 1 victory, The contest was deadlocked after three quarters, but Miami opened the fourth with an 8-2 run and never relinquished the lead after that. Dwyane Wade added 29 points for the second-seeded Heat, who defeated the Knicks in five games to advance to the second round. They have won 13 straight playoff home games versus Eastern Conference opponents. David West and Roy Hibbert both recorded a double-double for the Pacers, who also won their opening series in five games, downing the Dwight Howard-less Magic to reach the second round for the first time since 2005. West had 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Hibbert had 17 and 11. Danny Granger, typically Indianas top offensive threat, was held scoreless in the first half for the first time since April 10, 2007 and finished with just seven points on 1-of-10 shooting. "Were not going to change," said West. "We didnt play a good enough game tonight as a group to compete with these guys. We can play a lot better than we did." James, who on Saturday won his third MVP award in the last four seasons, scored 16 points in the fourth quarter and continuously got to the basket or the foul line down the stretch. The Pacers kept it close, cutting the deficit to 86-85 on George Hills three-pointer with five minutes remaining but James responded with four straight points. He went 6-for-6 from the foul line in the final frame and buried a pullup jumper inside the final minute to put the game away. "He made MVP plays on both ends of the court," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said when talking about his superstar. "The rebounding, defending (West), but also creating a lot of offense for us. Particularly in the fourth quarter when we needed some relief." As for Game 2, Spoelstra wouldnt say who will start in Boshs place or how long he expects his big man to sit. "Were not even going to speculate," the Miami mentor said. "We just have to see day to day. There absolutely isnt a timetable right now. He was in today doing treatment." Bosh, however, essentially ruled himself out of the semifinals. "This season has to be extended for me to play again," he said. "So thats whats on my mind. " James, meanwhile, compared the Heat losing Bosh to Chicagos injury troubles. The top-seeded Bulls lost both Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah and lost to the No. 8 Sixers. "Its going to be a challenge for us. Were missing the biggest part of our team, probably the biggest part of our team," said the MVP. "Nobody feels sorry for the Bulls losing (Derrick Rose) or Joakim Noah getting hurt. Nobody feels sorry for you and we dont want anybody feeling sorry for us. We look forward to the challenge. And well be ready." Ronny Turiaf started the second half of Game 1 in Boshs absence but Joel Anthony or sliding Udonis Haslem over from power forward are also options for Spoelstra. Turiaf plays with energy and offers the opportunity to keep the rest of his rotation intact but he is tremendously undersized against Hibbert. "It changes their team, but weve got to understand it doesnt allow you to play 5-on-4," Pacers coach Frank Vogel said. "They have got great players they can fill in for him. Obviously, not having to worry about Bosh helps because hes such a terrific player." Miami won three of the four from Indiana in the regular season. The only other playoff meeting between the Pacers and Heat came in 2004 in the East semifinals with Indiana winning in six games. Game 3 of the series will be in Indianapolis on Thursday. Then Paul Pierces shot at a game-winner at the end of the first overtime was blocked by Dahntay Jones. There was still plenty of time for Pierce and Rondo to come through. Pierce made a 3-pointer at the start of the second extra period to give Boston the lead for good, and the Celtics held on for a 117-115 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night. Pierce scored 34 points in all, and Rondo had 16 points, 15 assists and nine rebounds in a career-high 52 minutes, 30 seconds. "We ask him to do a lot," Pierce said of Rondo. "We ask him to push it up, score and rebound. We ask him to do a lot because he can do it." Pierce had four points in the first overtime -- putting him over 23,000 points in his career -- and eight in the second. Rondo, who played the entire first OT and all but 2 seconds of the second, had the only other basket in the second overtime before Courtney Lee made a pair of free throws with 6 seconds to play. "I thought the biggest mistake I made was leaving Rondo in that long," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "I thought that had an impact on the speed of the game." Kevin Garnett added 16 points for Boston, and Jason Terry had 10 points against the team he played with for eight seasons. O.J. Mayo scored 24 points for Dallas, and Shawn Marion had 16 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. Mayo, who played 51:55, also had nine of the Mavericks 28 turnovers. "I wasnt tired at all. You just cant turn the ball over. Look at the stats, man: nine turnovers out of 28," he said. "We had plenty of opportunities to take control of that game and win. Weve got to be better in that area. We jusst cant turn the ball over.dddddddddddd" Boston led by 14 in the third quarter and eight after the first basket in the fourth before Dallas chipped away at the deficit and tied it at 92 on Darren Collisons drive to the basket. After Rondo made a jumper, Fisher hit a 3-pointer with 1:47 left in the fourth to give the Mavericks their first lead of the game. Pierce came out in the second overtime and hit a 3 to make it 108-105. Mayos basket made it a one-point game and the tired teams struggled to score until Rondo drove to the basket to give Boston a 110-107 lead with 36 seconds to play. From there, Dallas was forced to foul. Pierce sank one of two free throws and Vince Carter hit a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left to make it 111-110. Pierce hit another pair of foul shots and Collison hit two free throws before Pierce and Courtney Lee each made two. Mayo hit a meaningless 3-pointer at the buzzer to make it a two-point final margin. The Celtics never trailed, opening a six-point lead in the first quarter and leading by as many as 10 in the second before Dallas scored 8 of the last 11 points in the half to head into the break down just 48-43. Boston opened a 14-point lead early in the third quarter before the Mavericks scored 10 of the next 12 points. After Rondo drove to the basket to give Boston a 78-70 lead with the first score of the fourth quarter, the Mavericks went on a 7-2 run -- five of those points coming from Mayo -- to make it a three-point game. Notes: Mavericks F Dirk Nowitzki has not played since October surgery on his right knee. Coach Rick Carlisle says there is no timetable for his return. ... The Celtics leave for a Texas swing, starting in Houston on Friday followed by San Antonio on Saturday. ... Mayo, who is second in the NBA in 3-pointers, did not make one until early in the second half. ' ' '
