Ultimate Texans Ed Reed accepts demotion from Texans
When the Texans play at Arizona on Sunday, free safety Ed Reed will come off the bench for the second game in a row.
Shiloh Keo started the 27 24 loss to Indianapolis. Reed played 30 snaps when they used three safeties in dime packages. Keo also started the first two games when the Texans beat San Diego and Tennessee.
Reed referred to himself after practice today as a "sixth man" and mentioned Robert Horry, who won NBA championships with the Rockets, Lakers and Spurs.
"That's what he did the last game," said defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, who made the decision to start Keo. "He's playing on our pass coverage, basically our dime pass coverage more than our run downs.
"Shiloh's a strong tackler. He's played pretty well. He's done some good things, as has Ed. You can say what you want to, but we're still way ahead of everybody in pass defense. You look at it in one game and you say, 'Wow, well, Ed gave wholesale youth jerseys up this play or that play.' Overall, we're playing pretty good pass defense."
