In hopes of generating some good buzz about their soup kitchen, workers at the Jubilee Center of South Broward will hold a talent show Thursday showcasing the abilities of the homeless people who frequent the center. Jubilee has been under fire from neighbors because its clientele, said Ana Couceiro, a registered nurse who works at the center. Couceiro said she hopes the talent show brings positive attention to the soup kitchen. It's a "way to enhance the self esteem and joy for people who normally struggle on a day to day basis," Couceiro said.

About 20 homeless bicyclists park at the Caring Kitchen at lunchtime, and leave with plastic bags of food hanging from the handlebars. For many, the bike is their only way to get around; their link to the outside world: food, jobs, doctors, dentists, social workers and friends. Maggie Conley, a Caring Kitchen volunteer, thinks many south Palm Beach County residents have bikes sitting in their garages, unused and decaying, that would benefit local homeless. She is seeking donations for the kitchen clients.

Residents of the Royal Poinciana neighborhood are fed up with the clients of a nearby soup kitchen who they claim knock on their doors and ask for money, fight and holler in their yards and use their alleys as bathrooms. "This is a never ending battle," said Denise Dugan who a year ago bought a home a block away from the Jubilee Center of South Broward. As part of the company's Renew Energize Donate (RED) day, about 100 volunteers donned red shirts and repainted, landscaped and fixed up the inside and outside of The Soup Kitchen of Boynton Beach . "It feels good to give back to the community where we live and where we sell real estate," said Beverly Mandell, a Boynton agent. Consider the nature of birds. "Ive made a study of birds in the street and how they eat," the crippled panhandler named Victor explains. Some birds are smart enough to store up food for the future. Others only think of how it is now. And then there are pigeons. "Its the nature of a pigeon to eat when the food is there and go hungry when it isnt," Victor observes. Maintaining a no questions asked, all you can eat soup kitchen in suburban West Boynton Beach comes with a certain communal responsibility. Enrique Zuanetto, director of The Soup Kitchen of Boynton Beach , said that making sure that the homeless and homeowners can co exist peacefully is part of his job.
