The defending NASCAR Canadian Tire Series champion earned the pole in Saturdays qualifying session for the Vortex Brake Pads 200 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. The veteran out of Milverton, Ont., laid down a 83.922-second lap for an average speed of 105.484 mph on the 2.459-mile road course to establish a new track record for the series. The old record of 84.041 seconds (105.334 mph) was set by Andrew Ranger on June 13, 2010. For Steckly, it was his seventh career pole and second at the track behind the wheel of his No. 22 Canadian Tire Dodge. The second-fastest car of the session belonged to J.R. Fitzpatrick, a two-time race winner on the road course at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, with a time of 84.092 seconds (105.270 mph). Another two-time victor at the track, Andrew Ranger, qualified third with a lap time of 84.106 seconds (105.253 mph). Defending race winner D.J. Kennington, who qualified fourth, timed in at 85.230 seconds (103.865 mph) while Ron Beauchamp Jr. followed with a qualifying time of 85.438 seconds (103.612 mph). Jason Hathaway, Kerry Micks, Peter Klutt, Jeff Lapcevich and Louis-Philippe Dumoulin rounded out the top-10 qualifiers.
