The Kontinental Hockey League All-Star Game is Sunday in Russia, the same day NHL training camps are expected to open in North America and while several NHLers are in transit from Europe, it appears that Ilya Kovalchuk may not return to New Jersey until after the game at the earliest. cheap nfl jerseys . On Wednesday, the KHL website published the revised all-star lineup for the upcoming game and Kovalchuk was the only NHL player remaining on the list. However, Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk has been given permission to participate in the All-Star festivities before returning to Detroit. There were questions surrounding Kovalchuks return to the NHL earlier this week, just two days after the NHL lockout ended. While players returned to North America, Kovalchuk was non-committal about a return, claiming he wanted to see what the new CBA looked like before heading back. "I will need to read the new agreement," Kovalchuk told Russian daily sports newspaper, Sport Express, on Tuesday. On Thursday, Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello told TSN that he was confident Kovalchuk would show up and play with his team. "I stand behind my comment thats been consistent from Day 1 that I have no reason to believe that he wont be here and play for the Devils, Lamoriello told TSN. The 29-year-old, who signed a 15-year, $100 million contract with New Jersey in 2010, has spent the season playing for SKA St. Petersburg. He was on the ice Tuesday for SKAs 3-2 loss to Ak Bars Kazan, while teammates Sergei Bobrovsky and Vladimir Tarasenko set off for their respective NHL teams, Columbus and St Louis. NHL owners will vote to ratify the new 10-year agreement Wednesday, while the players will vote on Friday and Saturday. According to the Detroit Free Press, Datsyuk has been given permission to participate in the All-Star festivities put will return to Detroit on Monday. "Pavel loves Red Wings organization. He make his name in Detroit," Datsyuks agent Gary Greenstin told the Free Press. "He belongs to them, and Detroit belong to him. "He has permission to play in All-Star Game. Bears battle Musketeers in South Regional affair - 7:15 PM ET Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - The 10th-seeded Xavier Musketeers will try to take down the third-seeded Baylor Bears as the two programs battle it out in the South Regions semifinal round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament at the Georgia Dome. Xavier quickly quieted the 15th-seeded Lehigh Mountain Hawks in the third round of the tourney last Sunday to advance. The Musketeers strong defense powered them as they held off Lehigh to win 70-58. Xavier will look to carry its defensive momentum into the Sweet 16 after allowing the Mountain Hawks to make only 14.7 percent of their field goal attempts in the final 20 minutes of the contest. The strong defensive effort is nothing new, as Xavier led the Atlantic 10 in field goal percentage defense and three-point field goal percentage defense. Coach Chris Mack has a chance to lead Xavier to its third Elite Eight in 12 years, after it reached the quarterfinal round in 2004 and 2008. The Bears are going to be a challenge for XUs hard-nosed defense. Baylor seems to be gaining momentum at the right time. After a struggle with South Dakota State in its second-round contest, it ran away from the 11th-seeded Colorado and picked up an 80-63 victory. Baylors athletic lineup won the rebounding battle 41-28 versus Colorado. Coach Scott Drews team has still not lost to a non-conference opponent this season. The Bears are a very explosive team offensively and have outscored their opponents by an average of 10.0 ppg this season. Baylor has already set the single-season record for wins. Baylor and Xavier will be meeting for just the second time. Baylor defeated Xavier, 69-64, in the fifth-place game of the 2009 Old Spice Classic on a neutral court. The winner of this game will move into the Elite Eight against either top-seeded Kentucky or fourth-seeded Indiana. Senior center Kenny Frease scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed a game- high 12 rebounds to push the Musketeers past Lehigh. Guard Tu Holloway continued his stellar play as he poured in 21 points to outshine Lehighs C.J. McCollum. Holloway leads the team with averages of 17.4 points and 4.9 assists per game and is the only player in the Atlantic 10 in the top five in both statistical categories. Shooting guard Mark Lyons has been in a shooting slump in the Big Dance so far, as he had gone 5-of-17 from the floor in his first two games. Lyons averaged 15.0 ppg during the regular season and is a threat to break out at any time. The Bears lineup is as deep and dangerous as any team left in the field. Guard Brady Heslip had a huge game in the third round versus Colorado as he knocked down nine three-pointers to set a program record for an NCAA Tournament game. Perry Jones III (13.4 ppg, 7.7 rpg) was held under 10 points for the second straight game by the Buffaloes, but point guard Pierre Jackson (13.5 ppg, 5.8 apg) continued his outstanding play. Jacksons quickness makes him nearly impossible to defend, which led to 15 points and 10 assists in the third round. Baylors starting forward duo of Quincy Miller (11.0 ppg) and Quincy Acy (11.5 ppg, 7.2 rpg) has been vital to the Bears success this postseason. Top-seeded Tar Heels set sights on Bobcats in Sweet 16 - 7:47 PM ET St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - A number-one seed for an NCAA-record 14th time, the North Carolina Tar Heels seek a spot in the Elite Eight, as they take on the surprising Ohio University Bobcats in Midwest Regional semifinal action at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis. Despite their top billing in the region this year, the Tar Heels tournament run has not come without its share of adversity. The team had to open tournament play without All-ACC First-Team forward John Henson and then just when the team got Henson back in the lineup, all-conference point guard Kendall Marshall suffered a broken wrist, leaving his status up in the air for the remainder of this event. Still, with wins over Vermont (77-58) and Creighton (87-73), UNC has moved to 107-40 all-time in NCAA Tournament play, tied with Kentucky for the most wins in tournament history. With the win over the Bluejays this past weekend, North Carolina advanced to its 31st Sweet 16 and is seeking its sixth national title overall (1957, 1982, 1993, 2005 and 2009) and third under Roy Williams. The Bobcats are making their 13th NCAA Tournament appearance after capturing their sixth Mid-American Conference crown since 1983. Ohios tournament resume isnt quite as distinguished with a 7-13 all-time record in the event. The team is making its first trip to the Sweet 16 since the NCAA Tournament field expanded. John Groces Bobcats have managed to navigate through the tournament field thus far as a 13-seed. Ohios upsets of four-seed Michigan (65-60) and 12th-seed South Florida (62-56) mark the first consecutive NCAA Tournament wins for the program since 1964. This marks the third meeting in a brief series history. The Tar Heels won the first meeting in 1985 (99-57)in Chapel Hill, but the Bobcats shocked North Carolina at the Smith Center in 2002 (86-78) to tie things up. The winner of this game will move into the Midwest Regional final against either Kansas or NC State. Known for its strong defensive play this year, Ohio beat South Florida at its own game this past weekend, limiting the Bulls to a mere 56 points in a six- point victory. The backcourt combination of Walter Offutt and D.J. Cooper was unstoppable, as the two guards combined for 40 points. Offutt led the charge, hitting 7-of-9 from the floor, including a perfect 4-of-4 from three-point range to finish with a game-high 21 points. Cooper poured in 19 points, while doling out seven assists in the win. The Bobcats have been served well by "Hanging with Mr. Cooper" this season. The 5-11 junior is a two-time All-MAC First-Team selection and comes into this game pacing the team in scoring (14.9 ppg), assists (5.7 apg), steals (83) and three-pointers (74). His 2.31 steals per game ranks 16th nationally. Offutt provides perimeter support for the Bobcats at 12.0 ppg and also has a penchant for strong defensive play (56 steals on the season). Limited depth at the offensive end comes in the form of Reggie Keely (9.1 ppg), Ivo Baltic (8.9 ppg) and Nick Kellogg (8.8 ppg). Ohio, which limits foes to a mere 62.2 ppg this year, averages a modest 70.3 and will need to find offense from a number of sources to keep up with North Carolina. The Tar Heels were able to post a rather easy win over Creighton last weekend, but the victory came at a cost, as Marshall broke a bone in his right wrist in the second half. The sophomore sensation had a screw implanted in his wrist this week and actually had a cast removed on Wednesday. It is not known at this time whether Marshall will play or not, but the Heels might be best served to gameplan the rest of the way without him. Against the Bluejays, it was Marshall who led the way with a double-double of 18 points and 11 assists. Harrison Barnes poured in 17 points, Henson recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Reggie Bullock and Tyler Zeller chimed in with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Although losing a player like Marshall (8.1 ppg, 9.8 apg) would cripple most teams, North Carolina is one of the few that may be able to assuage the loss. The team is chock-full of talent, especially in the frontcourt, with Barnes (17.3 ppg, 5.2 rpg), Zeller (16.4 ppg, 9.4 rpg) and Henson (13.8 ppg, 10.1 rpg). Barnes is the slasher with the ability to score from anywhere on the floor and joined Henson as an All-ACC First-Team selection. Zeller did as well, but upped that by being tabbed the ACC Player of the Year. The real question will be how does an offense that averages a gaudy 82.0 ppg (second nationally) perform if its key cog is missing from the lineup. Kentucky seeks revenge in Sweet 16 - 9:45 PM ET Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - The top-seeded Kentucky Wildcats will have a chance to avenge their only regular season loss as they square off with the fourth-seeded Indiana Hoosiers in a South Regional semifinal matchup at the Georgia Dome. The Hoosiers escaped a battle with Virginia Commonwealth in the third round with a narrow 63-61 victory after a last second three-point attempt by the Rams rimmed out. The win put Indiana in its first Sweet 16 since 2002. The last time Indiana made it to the regional semifinals, it ended up advancing all the way to the national championship game. Head coach Tom CCrean has slowly rebuilt the program since arriving in Bloomington four years ago, and he will be looking to win his first NCAA title, while delivering Indiana its sixth. jerseys nfl cheap china. The Hoosiers are 62-30 in this event all-time, earning national titles in 1940, 1953, 1976, 1981 and 1987. The top-seeded Wildcats continued to impress by defeating the talented Iowa State Cyclones, 87-71, in their second game of the Big Dance. Iowa State is a strong three-point shooting team, but the Cyclones were held to 13.6 percent shooting from beyond the arc by Kentucky. Coach John Calipari led his squad to 24 straight wins before it was upset by Vanderbilt in the SEC Tournament title bout. Kentucky is tied with North Carolina for the most wins in NCAA Tournament history with 107. The Wildcats boast of seven national titles, winning it all in 1948, 1949, 1951, 1958, 1978, 1996 and 1998. Indiana was the only team to take down UK in the regular season before Vanderbilt managed to do the same in the SEC Tournament. The Hoosiers Christian Watford knocked down a deep three-pointer as time expired to give IU a 73-72 victory in a game played in Bloomington on Dec. 10. Indiana knocked down 9-of-15 from beyond the arc in that contest, while UK made only 2-of-7 from distance. A big factor in the first bout was Kentuckys star forward Anthony Davis only played 24 minutes due to foul trouble. Still, Kentucky holds a 31-24 edge in the all-time series with Indiana. The winner of this game will take on either Xavier or Baylor in the South Regions final. Davis struggled with foul trouble as he competed inside with Indianas star freshman Cody Zeller. The Big Ten Freshman of the Year leads the team in both scoring (15.5 ppg) and rebounding (6.5 rpg) with tenacious inside play. Zellers post play has opened up the outside for Christian Watford (13.3 ppg) and Jordan Hulls (9.8 ppg). Watford and Zeller each netted 16 points versus VCU in the third round, and Will Sheehey (6.7 ppg) came up big in the clutch with the game-winning jumper with 12.7 second left. Victor Oladipo (9.1 ppg) played very well in the contest also, as he scored nine points and dished out six assists. The Hoosiers have found success this season by being one of the top three-point shooting teams in the nation (.437). Zeller will need to keep pressure on Davis again, as his presence is a huge factor. The rookie forward scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to help the Wildcats cruise past Iowa State in their third round matchup. Davis was named the SEC Player of the Year after one of the most remarkable freshman campaigns of all time. The 6-10 youngster was among the nations best in field-goal percentage (.636). He leads the Wildcats in both scoring (14.3 ppg) and rebounding (10.1 rpg) and leads the entire nation in blocked shots (166). Davis is far from the only player IU will have to worry about in this one. Darius Miller (9.8 ppg) and Doron Lamb (13.4 ppg) are both impactful scorers. Point guard Marquis Teague (9.9 ppg) had a spectacular showing in the third round versus Iowa State, as he scored 24 points and dished out seven assists. If Teague continues to be assertive, it will only open things up even more for Davis, Miller, Lamb, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (11.5 ppg) and Terrence Jones (12.6 ppg). UK has plenty of firepower, outscoring its opponents by an average of 17.6 ppg during this dominating season. Jayhawks meet Wolfpack in Midwest Regional semifinals - 10:17 PM ET St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - In the Sweet 16 for the 28th time in school history, the Kansas Jayhawks set out to earn a spot in the Midwest Regional final, as they take on the NC State Wolfpack at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis. Kansas is making its 41st appearance in the Big Dance, including a national- best 23 straight including this season. The Jayhawks are an impressive 90-39 all-time in this event with three national titles (1952, 1988, 2008) and have navigated their way through the tourney field thus far as the second-seed. KU has advanced to the Sweet 16 in six of the nine seasons under Bill Self and reached the regional semifinals this year with wins over Detroit (65-50) and Purdue (63-60). Mark Gottfrieds first season in Raleigh has been highly successful. The team showed glimpses of its strong play during the regular season both in and out of the ACC, but has really come together of late. After losing in the ACC Tournament on a questionable non-call against North Carolina (69-67), the 11th-seeded Wolfpack have rallied with upsets of both sixth-seeded San Diego State (79-65) and third-seeded Georgetown (66-63). NC State is in the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2005 and just the second time since 1989. The Wolfpack are 34-21 in the NCAA Tournament all-time with a pair of national titles to their credit (1974, 1983). This marks the 12th meeting between these two teams on the hardwood. Kansas has dominated the series with wins in 10 of the previous 11 matchups. NC State won the first meeting in 1958, but Kansas has captured the last 10. Exactly 26 years ago from the date of this Sweet 16 affair, Kansas knocked off NC State (75-67) en route to the 1986 Final Four. The winner of this game will take on either North Carolina or Ohio University in the Midwest Regional final on Sunday. It took some time, but the Wolfpack were able to capture a lead late in the first half against Georgetown and then never relinquished it en route to their first Sweet 16 in seven years. NC State, which converted just four field goals in the first 15 minutes of the first half, trailed 25-15, but rallied with a 15-2 run to take a three-point lead into the break. Four players notched double figures in the win, led by C.J. Leslie, Scott Wood and C.J. Williams, who finished with 14 points each. Point guard Lorenzo Brown had a strong game as well, posting 12 points, six rebounds and seven assists. It has been a similar formula all season long for NC State, as the team has shown the ability to spread the wealth around at the offensive end. The Wolfpack boast five players averaging double figures. Leslie, an All-ACC Second-Team selection, leads the team with 14.6 ppg. Brown picked up All-ACC Third-Team honors, netting 12.8 ppg to go along with 6.4 apg. Wood adds 12.4 ppg and is the resident sharp-shooter on the team, converting just under 42 percent from behind the arc, while amassing 93 three-pointers thus far. Richard Howell is a perfect complement in the paint, averaging a near double- double with 11.0 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. Rounding out the strong quintet is Williams at 10.6 ppg. The Jayhawks played from behind for most of their game against Purdue last weekend, taking their first lead with just over three minutes to go in the game. The team couldnt find its range, shooting just .339 from the floor, its lowest shooting percentage in a victory this year. KU managed a mere .294 effort in the first half, its lowest shooting percentage in a half in NCAA Tournament action ever. The team was able to get past the Boilermakers thanks to strong play on the glass, outrebounding Purdue 44-36, including grabbing a season-high 21 offensive boards. Despite the poor showing at the offensive end, four Jayhawks managed to finish in double figures, led by Elijah Johnson, who scored 15 of his team-high 18 points in the second half. Thomas Robinson recorded his 25th double-double of the season with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Tyshawn Taylor and Travis Releford chipped in 10 points apiece in the victory. Robinson has been a force to be reckoned with all season long. His double- double against the Boilermakers now ties him with Drew Gooden for the schools single season record. A First-Team All-American and Big 12 Player of the Year, Robinson has been unstoppable. The 6-10 junior is averaging team- highs of 17.7 points and 11.8 rebounds per game. Taylor runs the point, and while his ability to get others involved in the offensive flow shouldnt be minimized (4.7 apg), it is his ability to fill up the basket (16.9 ppg) that makes him so dangerous. Johnson (10.0 ppg) is a perfect complement and is not shy about taking shots. He leads the team with 62 three-pointers on the season and has combined with Taylor for 119 of the teams 209 three-pointers to date. While Johnson provides perimeter support, center Jeff Withey (9.1 ppg, 6.2 rpg) plays a similar role down low. The Jayhawks have plenty off offensive firepower, but the success the team has had is also due to stingy defensive play. Kansas comes into this game allowing just 61.5 ppg, holding foes to a mere .381 shooting (sixth nationally). ' ' '
