Trustee Mark Lozano, who was elected vice president by colleagues this past week, said his first priority was to pursue an external audit of the district's budget and hiring practices.
Lozano's slate campaigned against what they called politicized operations at the school district as well as the district's poor showing in federal accountability benchmarks. He said since Texas Education Agency financial conservator Fred Liner left the district earlier this year, oversight of Wholesale Jerseys hiring practices had become lax.
"In Edcouch Elsa, it's one of those things where our old politics was you hired somebody and in return you have them and their family's support," Lozano said.

But the review was blocked after Hidalgo County Court at Law Judge Rodolfo "Rudy" Gonzalez issued an injunction sought by Norfilia Layton Gonzalez and Richard Ozuna, two incumbent board members who ran on a separate slate.
